| Abstract | ||
| Purpose: This study aimed to develop future scenarios for network governance in Iranian sport. Methodology: The research employed a fundamental and inductive approach. It was conducted using a mixed-methods strategy (qualitative and quantitative) within the framework of foresight studies. The foresight methodology was exploratory and scenario-based, utilizing intuitive logic. Participants included senior managers, members of national committees, federation presidents, coaches, athletes, and sport management scholars. In the qualitative phase, purposive sampling and theoretical saturation were achieved through 19 semi-structured interviews. In the quantitative phase, a strategic council of 10 participants was formed. Data collection tools included a 14×14 cross-impact matrix and a 9×9 impact balance matrix. The study’s trustworthiness was assessed based on Lincoln and Guba’s (1985) criteria: credibility, dependability, transferability, and confirmability. Data analysis was performed using thematic analysis, cross-impact analysis, and scenario planning. Findings: The results revealed that network governance in Iranian sport depends on 14 variables. However, four key uncertainties—actor relations, network centrality, consensus orientation, and network management—were identified as shaping the future of governance. Two primary scenarios emerged: (1) Crossing Sectoral Boundaries and (2) Trapped Within Sectoral Boundaries. The dominant scenario was Crossing Sectoral Boundaries. Conclusion: The findings highlight that a desirable future for network governance in Iranian sport is attainable through strengthening constructive interactions among actors, adaptive network management, and fostering strategic alignment—elements illustrated in the dominant scenario. | ||
