| Abstract | ||
| Background & Purpose: The study aims to identify and ranks the barriers that cause special patients in North Khorasan province not to participate in sports activities. Methodology: This research was mixed method (in the quality section, classic modified Delphi method and in the quantitative section, descriptive and analytical), respectively. The population in the qualitative section of the study consisted of some sports authorities, specialist physicians, sports management professors and a number of athletes with specific illnesses (n = 30), and in the quantitative section, the officials in sports for special patients council, the staff in associations for special patients, sport trainers and some of the patients who were referred to medical centers (n = 207). Sampling was targeted and accessible. Data were collected through qualitative interviews and quantitative researcher-made questionnaires. Reliability was confirmed by considering the ideas of 8 experts in sports science and the validity was obtained using Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0.82). Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics (frequencies, tables) and inferential statistics (EFA) with Spss20 and CFA was performed by LISREL 8.5. Results: According to the results, the barriers to sport participation were of managerial, individual, media, economic and socio-cultural nature, respectively. Conclusion: Given the research findings, if the above mentioned organizations cooperate to remove the barriers identified in the research, the special patients' participation in sports activities will increase dramatically which will in turn improve their lifestyle. | ||
