The institutionalization of China-US geostrategic tensions: An analysis of multiple causal mechanisms | ||

| Abstract | ||
| New technologies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution have not only the ability to change the balance but also the ability to influence all areas from the economy to security and defense issues. Accordingly, as technology advances rapidly, its impact on the modern global economy also increases, and as the world enters the era of great power competition, this area has become more important for China and the United States. At the same time, due to the fundamental differences in the strategic culture of China and the United States, this competition has affected not only international trade flows and global supply chains but also the new world order. The central question of the present study, relying on a combined theoretical framework consisting of "hegemonic stability theory" and "cultural realism", cahave led to the institutionalization of geopolitical tensions in the international system? The central hypothesis of this research argues that the structural and action-oriented foundations of the confrontation between China and the United States can be analyzed in three interacting causal mechanisms: 1. Conflicting identity structures in political discourses that have led to the formation of two-way and confrontational identity narratives; 2. The process of increasing securitization in economic-technological areas that has led to the redefinition of these areas as areas of national security; n the strategic cultures of the two actors.
