| Abstract | ||
| The rapid advancements in modern technologies and the fundamental changes in the preferences of new-generation tourists have made the transition from traditional approaches to forward-looking models inevitable in the sports industry. The present study aims to develop a roadmap and chart the path from the current situation to the desired future by designing a strategic model for the country’s sports tourism destinations with a horizon toward 1414. From a purpose perspective, this study is applied, and methodologically, it is qualitative with a futures studies strategy. The statistical population included academic and executive experts in the fields of sports management, economics, and technology, of whom 18 individuals were selected using purposive and snowball sampling methods. Data collected from in-depth interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis within the framework of the backcasting technique. The findings indicate that the desirable future image is built upon three pillars: an intelligent and interactive ecosystem, environmental sustainability, and active diplomacy. Gap analysis revealed that inefficient governmental governance, infrastructure obsolescence, and international isolation are the main barriers to development. Accordingly, the transition roadmap was designed in three temporal phases: a short-term phase focusing on legal groundwork and reforms, a medium-term phase emphasizing physical development and regional branding, and a long-term phase aiming at technological maturity and global leadership. The final model suggests that achieving sustainable foreign revenue requires a paradigm shift from hierarchical management to network governance and leveraging disruptive technologies to create a differentiated experience for sports tourists. | ||
