| چکیده | ||

| چکیده [English] | ||
| Natural resource rents, particularly oil rents, have long been regarded as a dual-edged factor in the process of economic growth and social welfare in developing countries. On the one hand, such rents can contribute to improving welfare levels through increasing government revenues and promoting infrastructure development. On the other hand, in the absence of effective institutions and sound environmental policies, reliance on natural resources may be accompanied by adverse outcomes such as reduced economic diversification, heightened inequality, and increased environmental pressures. This study employs a Panel Smooth Transition Regression (PSTR) model and data from selected developing countries over the period 2007–2021 to examine the effect of oil rents on economic welfare, with particular emphasis on the moderating role of environmental pollution. The results indicate that the relationship between oil rents and welfare is nonlinear and dependent on the level of environmental pollution. Specifically, once carbon dioxide emissions exceed a certain threshold, the negative effect of oil rents on welfare intensifies. Moreover, the findings suggest that economic growth under conditions of high pollution does not necessarily lead to improvements in welfare, whereas capital accumulation can play a compensatory role in enhancing welfare even at higher levels of environmental pollution. These results highlight the importance of aligning oil revenue management with environmental policies and directing investment toward productive and less polluting activities in order to achieve sustainable welfare. | ||
