| چکیده [English] | ||
| In Conceptual Metaphor Theory, humans, as thinking language users, rely on their lived experiences to use words from a more concrete cognitive domain (the source domain) to understand a concept in another cognitive domain (the target domain). In the Arab world plagued by tyranny in the past century, the rise of protest voices has become all too familiar. Ahmed Matar, a contemporary Iraqi poet, is one such voice who has employed this type of metaphor to express his concepts and intentions. Using a descriptive-analytical method and based on the theory of Lakoff and Johnson, this study examines and analyzes the metaphorical mapping of "speech" in selected poems from the first volume of Matar's collection Lāftāt. The aim of this research is to reveal the poet's motivations and concerns behind using these mappings, as well as their impact on attracting audience empathy. The most important findings indicate that conceptual metaphors are a dynamic and pervasive tool for understanding abstract concepts. Matar has utilized various types of conceptual metaphors with the aim of representing the tyrannical and monologic atmosphere of Iraqi society. By concretizing his intended concepts, he has succeeded in gaining audience empathy, effectively depicting the oppression and corruption that afflict his people through the conceptual capacity of metaphors and their function of making abstract ideas tangible. Consequently, it can be asserted that his metaphors are a powerful means of expressing complex, ambiguous, and far-fetched meanings, which have been successfully realized through his poetic and linguistic experience. | ||
