چکیده | ||

چکیده [English] | ||
Context and Purpose: Tourism's transformative nature affects the entire society, and children, one of the most important stakeholders in tourism development, are no exception. This study aims to explore the place of children in tourism studies to clarify the structure of the knowledge domain. Design/methodology/approach: Using the PRISMA method, 341 scientific studies published in the Scopus, Web of Science, and Emerald databases, as well as four Persian databases, were selected and analyzed with a qualitative approach to conduct a systematic review in the field of children in tourism. Findings: Attention to children in tourism research has increased significantly since 2020. After analyzing the keywords of the selected studies, the findings were clustered based on four areas: children and family tourism, children and sustainable tourism development, children's perspectives in tourism, and children and sex tourism. Conclusion: Children, as the agents of influence and change, are at the beginning of the path in tourism research to find their place as one of the main stakeholders of tourism, whether as hosts or guests. Studies in tourism science lack breadth and depth, and there is a need for more extensive studies in the fields of children's roles, children's marketing, child-friendly tourism destination management, and other related fields. Originality/value: Due to the novelty of children's presence in tourism studies, this research was conducted to describe the position of children without the boundary of being guests or hosts and tried to explain the importance of children in tourism as agents of change and influence.
